Chocolates Careers - Hire Imaging

Chocolates Careers - Hire Imaging Mykl Roventine Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The New Year’s weight-loss and fitness ads will soon be replaced by others … you know which ones. Advertising for jewelry and cardsâ€"the show you care type. My hopeful favorite at this time of year is some really good chocolate! It made me think of that popular line from the movie, Forest Gump, Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get. Though the line’s probably been overusedâ€"even laughably to manyâ€"there is a good career take-away. Whether you’re exploring what you want to do, trying to find and get it, or trying to keep it, career life is very unpredictable. That box of chocolates might contain a complex mixture. You might grab your favorite caramel, or bite into a detested fruit filling. The results of your choices may suit youâ€"or not. Every decision has a different destination and a different consequence, good and bad. Yummy ones are very easy to swallow; yucky ones are hard to stomach. It is what we do afterward that matters. Do we give up finding our favoritesâ€"the ones we love? Or are we persistent like my little dog, Ted, who has no thought of giving in to obstacles, but instead gives in to adventures and possibilities! We all have to decide what paths we will take in our personal and career lives. If we keep searching, if we take the type of wide-eyed, child-like and anything-goes attitude that Forest Gump had, who knows how many wonderful adventures await us around the bend? Here’s wishing you goodies! And here’s to that bit of Forest Gump in you, when you bite into a yucky.

3 steps to identifying your values - Hallie Crawford

3 steps to identifying your values I was thrilled to get this email from a career coaching client, Tracy. I wanted to share it with you: Hi Hallie, I wanted to check in and let you know that Im better than I have been in a long time.   The same day I resigned from my current job, I received a call to interview with another company.   Yesterday, I officially accepted an offer.   I am thrilled because I went in to the interviews with my defined personal values at the forefront, and I think its a great fit Thanks, Tracy Tracy has already started her new position. Congrats Tracy! I wanted to point out what she said in this email. She went into the interview with her values at the forefront of her mind so she knew this new position would be a fit. Personal values are one of the key ways you can determine whether a job is a fit for you. Take these 3 steps to begin to identify your values: 1) Identify a peak personal experience in your life. Write about it. What was cool or important to you about this experience? What did you enjoy about it so much? 2) Notice the keywords you wrote down that stand out for you as possible values, and themes that you can see in your answers. These are clues to some of your values. 3) How does your current job align with those values? Which are present at your current job and which are not? This can give you great insight into why your current position may not be a good fit for you. So when youre interviewing for that next job, keep these values in mind! Write them down. Ask the interviewer specific questions that will help you know whether your values would be honored at that new position or not. These can help you develop great job interview questions too. Good luck and I hope this is helpful to you! Career Search Coach P.S. Are you frustrated with your job search? 5 Career Questions That Will Make You More Successful in 2015

5 Career Questions That Will Make You More Successful in 2015 Here we are at the end of 2014. The transition from one year to the next is a great time to reflect on your career to date and what you need to focus on going forward. These 5 questions will help steer your reflections in an insightful and productive way that can lead to increased success and career satisfaction in the year ahead. 1. What was my biggest accomplishment? Most job interviews include questions about your biggest accomplishment. You want to have something recent to sayâ€"ideally as recently as this year. What result did you achieve? What expertise did you gain? What area of the company did you improve? Remember not only those things you directly impacted but also how you contributed to a larger accomplishment, say for your department or an organization you support. Write down all of your wins, but select what you felt was the most significant and consider why it tops the list. This gives you a window into what you’re proud of, what you prioritize, what you’re passionate about. 2. Who was my biggest champion? Collaboration and relationships are critical to a successful career. It’s important to recognize who is helpful and what makes them helpful so you can thank people. You also want to nurture these relationships. Don’t just focus on big or obvious gestures, like a job lead shared or a reference given. Remember the colleague who helps you out when you’re overwhelmed, the friend who is available after work to listen and encourage, the savvy one in your network who’s great for identifying that tricky piece of information or next action to take. Many of your supporters help you in an ongoing way. What makes someone your biggest champion for this year? This speaks to what you really needed and who really stepped up. 3. Whom did I help? The strongest networks are built on give and take. What did you give this year? It might have been pitching in for someone else who is overwhelmed, offering encouragement, or sharing advice. As you reflect on all the ways you helped, you might see that your focus was limited to the office, or only outside of the office with volunteer commitments, and you may decide to change or blend your focus over the next year. For example, perhaps you concentrated exclusively on your team and you should reach out more to other areas of the company. Or you may find that all of your relationships revolve around people at one levelâ€"only junior or senior or peersâ€"and you want to diversify. Or you may discover that you’ve lost touch with everyone except those in your current company, and you need to consciously reach out to former colleagues, classmates, and personal connections in the year ahead. 4. What did I leave undone? We all start the year intending to complete a number of projects or reach specific goals. Which ones did you finish, and which are still outstanding? Which projects were attempted but not completed? Which goals dropped off your radar altogether? In the downtime that the holidays provide, you have the space to reprioritize and think about what needs to be completed, what can be discarded, and what might need to be refined for you to get excited again or for a project to become feasible. For example, a business idea you were fleshing out may no longer be relevant and can be set aside, but a skill you were trying to develop might just need extra support or dedicated time on your schedule for you to make progress. Review your unfinished business and make a conscious decision to continue or not. 5. What is coming up that most excites me? If this question brings up a lot of different commitments, pull out your schedule and plan for when you will pay attention to each of them. On the other hand, if you have trouble thinking about anything that excites you, now is the time to flex your passion muscle. Reviewing your past year might provide insight into areas to focus on. Reading business stories and biographies can encourage ideas for problems to solve; maybe some are relevant to your company and can be worked into your day-to-day. It could be that the most exciting thing coming up is personal in nature, such as a milestone in your family or a hobby you’re taking up. It’s important to acknowledge this and give space in your schedule for this, as you plan your upcoming professional commitments. Close Modal DialogThis is a modal window. 3 things to know about the robots that read your resume

3 things to know about the robots that read your resume Share Share via TwitterShare via FacebookShare via Google PlusShare via LinkedInShare via E-mail By Rae Brendecke Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are software applications that scan your rsum to determine if a recruiter should read it. Unfortunately, about 75 percent of rsums go unread by a human eye thanks to ATS. More than 90 percent of employers utilize ATS to filter through applicants before going to the next stage of the process. Heres how toget your rsum to rank highly within ATS so that it will be seen by the right people.Scan Your RsumJobscan Get five free scans of your rsum per month. It uses a similar algorithm ATS uses to calculate your match rate based on skill, job title, education, etc.Format matters.ATS cannot read all formats or file types. Most HR professionals recommend avoiding PDF, Pages, and other types of document files fremdartig from Microsoft Word. Having a plain text (TXT) version is al so helpful to upload as a backup. The way you create your rsum also matters. Not all ATS programs read headers, footers, text boxes, charts, or graphics, so it is best to avoid this type of formatting. If those creative elements are used, key components of your rsum mightbe skipped over such as contact information or complete sections of your rsum. Instead, stick to simple formatting.Keywords. Keywords. Keywords.Because many ATS software applications rely on exact character-matching, a candidate must use the exact words from a job description. Otherwise, it is likely their rsumwill not be picked up by the ATS. For example, if the job description particularly in the Qualifications or Requirements section is looking for a software developer with knowledge of Java and Python, you would want the words software, Java, and Python to appear multiple times in your rsum. This means including those keywords not only in your skills section but in your projects and experience sections. Often, ATS software rates your application on how closely you match the keywords in the job description. How can you identify important keywords? Read through the job description and highlight any skills, technology, software or repeated words, especially in the qualifications section that match your own skills and credentials. This is often the best way to get a sense of what the employer is looking for in a candidate. Incorporate those highlighted words and phrases as they appear in the job description in your rsum and cover letter.Warning dont just copy and paste keywords and phrases into your rsum- the ATS will catch that tooIt should still be human-friendly, too.Remember, the ATS is the first step. Once youve successfully navigated the ATS, your rsum will likely be reviewed by multiple people, so it should still look aesthetically pleasing and easy to skim. Use simple features like strategic use of spaces, bold, italics, columns, and underlining to create a flow to your rsum that makes it easy for a recruiter and hiring manager to read. Be sure to incorporate your keywords into high impact phrases that describe how you uniquely contributed in previous roles.CategoriesCareer AdviceTagsExpert Advice - Graduate StudentsFeature Article
